Remembering Those Who Have Fallen - Let Not Their Sacrifice Be In Vain!
Memorial Day - Monday, May 29, 2023.
Memorial Day has real meaning to our family. My wife’s uncle U.S. Navy Pilot Ensign Ronald D. Eaton went MIA/KIA in North Korea on June 25, 1952. He never came home.
My father is a U.S. Navy Korean war veteran. His oldest brother was a U.S. Navy World War II veteran. My uncle passed away years ago but my father is still alive. They both came home after their service to their country. I am a U.S. Navy veteran. I took part in the Iran hostage rescue attempt (Operation Eagle Claw) on April 24,25, 1980. I too came home after my service to my country. We three gave some…my wife’s uncle gave it all.
Today is not about remembering and thanking America’s veterans. It is about remembering our brothers and sisters in arms who gave it all.
Remembering America’s fallen heroes today should not be a passing thought while sitting around a family gathering, or a barbeque, a picnic, or whatever. Today should be a day of humble remembrance, heartfelt gratitude, and soul reaching thankfulness by all Americans for the ultimate sacrifice so many have given for us.
Sadly this will not be the case given the current political insanity griping our nation. We live in a time when not every American citizen loves America. In fact there is a growing population of those who hate here and everything she stands for. They are the minority not the majority.
Today is not about them.
Today is all about honoring those who paid the ultimate price for all of us to be able to live free.
Even though the very freedom they died for is in grave danger.
No words, no speeches, not ceremonies, no parades, no public celebrations, could ever do true justice to our fallen heroes. Yet we must try, we must remember, we must not forget.
I fly our American flag upside down in our front yard on purpose. Underneath it is the POW/MIA flag for Ensign Eaton. I do this out of respect for his, and the hundreds of thousands of others like him who gave it all so that we can live free.
My flag flying upside down is a cry for help…not from abroad, but from within. It is a cry to my fellow Americans to wake up, stand up, and start fighting back against the tyranny overtaking our country. Not doing so is the greatest of all insults to our fallen loved ones!
The only ones who are going to save America; if she is to be saved, is us, you and I, we the people. With God’s help and mercy.
This is my prayer today. That God will have mercy upon America, that he will hear our cries and prayers, and that he will step in and help us to stop the madness that America has fallen into.
